What is The Work?

The Work
is a simple yet powerful process of inquiry that teaches you to identify and question thoughts that cause all the suffering in the world. It's a way to understand what's hurting you, and to address your problems with clarity.

People who do The Work as an ongoing practice report life-changing results.

  • Decreased stress: Learn how to live with less anxiety or fear.

  • Alleviation of depression: Find resolution, and even happiness, in situations that were once debilitating.
  • Improved relationships: Experience deeper connection and intimacy with your partner, your parents, your children, your friends, and yourself.
  • Reduced anger: Understand what makes you angry and resentful, and become less reactive, less often, with less intensity.
  • Increased mental clarity: Live and work more intelligently and effectively, with integrity.
  • More energy: Experience a new sense of ongoing vigor and well-being.
  • More peace: Discover how to become "a lover of what is."

For thousands of years we’ve been told not to judge, but we still do it all the time—how our friends should act, whom our children should care about, what our parents should feel, do, or say. In The Work, rather than suppress these judgments, we use them as starting points for self-realization. By letting the judging mind have its life on paper, we discover through the mirror of those around us what we haven't yet realized about ourselves.

The Work is four questions that have the capacity to radically transform your life.

  1. Is it true?
  2. Can you absolutely know that it's true?
  3. How do you react when you think that thought?
  4. Who would you be without that thought?

After you answer these questions, turn the stressful thought around to the opposite. Find three genuine examples of how the turnaround is as true or truer in your life.

Some universal thoughts you might recognize as your own:

  • There is something wrong with me.
  • He/She doesn't like me.
  • I need more money.
  • Something terrible is going to happen.
  • I need your love.
  • I am a failure.
  • I should be thinner, stronger, more beautiful.

Discovering The Work quickly shifted my approach to life including the way I deal with people and situations.  It is my privilege to share The Work with clients.  I love experiencing The Work as it moves people to notice their truth.

As a Certified Facilitator of The Work I support you in finding out what is true for you, as you discover your own answers to the questions.  I assist you in identifying areas you want to address.  Using a variety of simple techniques, I help you uncover stressful thoughts to work on, including underlying beliefs that may have defined and limited your entire experience for a lifetime.

My job is not to analyze or guide you in the direction of any particular outcome.  My job is to provide a safe, loving space for you to find and experience your own answers, your own truth.  In my experience with The Work, freedom from pain and clarity about how to proceed in your life only come through the answers that are already within you.

The Work only works when you answer the questions. Whenever your mind wanders away from inquiry, I will gently move you back to The Work. If you experience fear or get stuck, I am here to invite you to discover how the questions, as well as your answers, hold and support you in every moment.

It's my pleasure to offer you a complimentary consultation if you would like to explore the possibilities of working together.  703.378.1564
